Canoeing in northeast Michigan has become extremely popular. Families enjoy the experience of floating down one of the many beautiful rivers that abound on Michigan's Sunrise Side.

Whether you enjoy canoeing, tubing, kayaking or other forms of navigating along the region's lakes and streams we have some of the best water in the world. Choose from the AuSable or Rifle Rivers and you will have the time of your life. Take the family, group of friends, or both and spend a great weekend, week or more.


Canoe outfitters offer day, multiple day or week long vacation excursions. Be sure to ask about the various trips available at each of our member canoe liveries.

Alcona Canoe Rental and Campground

Located near Glennie on the AuSable River. This canoe livery features 3 rental cabins, campsites, party store, canoes, kayaks, tubes and more. They can assist with trips from 2.5 hours to seven days. Open from April to October each year. 6351 Bamfield Rd. Glennie. 1-800-526-7080.

Greenwood Campground

Oscoda Canoe Rental

Oscoda Canoe Rental features canoes, kayaks, tubes and more. They provide trips from 2 hours to 7 days along the AuSable river. They are open April 15 through October. Oscoda Canoe Rental is located at the River Road bridge near Oscoda at 678 river road. 989-739-9040.

Rainbow Resort

Rainbow Resort features AuSable River canoeing with canoes, kayaks, and tubes. They can provide trips ranging from 1.5 hours to three days. They also have 7 cabins open all year. Rainbow Resort is located at 731 Camp Ten road near Mio. 1-800-737-4133.

Russell Canoes and Campgrounds
The Rifle River is a beautiful river especially made for family enjoyment. Its refreshing cool water's average depth is under two feet deep. This makes the use of canoes, kayaks and the popular Rifle river Drifter, a fantastic choice for a hot summer day. The Rifle River is also home to many species of wildlife including turtles, whitetail deer, turkeys, mink, beaver, muskrat, raccoon and bald eagles as well as many other species of birds.
