Snowmobiling in northeast Michigan is one of our most popular
winter activities. Through the efforts of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources,
community organizations and others interested in promoting the development of snowmobiling
as a sport on Michigan's Sunrise Side an increasing number of trails are being opened each
year.
While the snowmobiling industry is continuing to grow, and the number of trails
continue to increase it would be advisable to check with the various communities here in
northeast Michigan for the latest in snowmobile trail conditions. Many chambers of
commerce offer up tot he minute snow reports that will help you plan your winter weekend.
The Huron Manistee National Forest, several state forests and large tracts of county
land are available for snowmobile trail riding.
Whether you decide to ride the trails or break your own trail you will find that
northeast Michigan is a great place to enjoy the winter activities that are provided to
you.
Snowmobiles will also find a wide variety of accommodations open and available
throughout the winter season. In our listings of the various motels and hotels in the
region you will find a convenient telephone number for your use. Members of Michigan's
Sunrise Side Travel Association are highlighted in bold face type with additional
information about their properties.
Anyone operating a snowmobile on public property in Michigan is required to purchase an
annual snowmobile trail permit ($25 valid for one year) in addition to having a valid snowmobile
registration($23 valid for three years),
regardless of state of residency.
